2019 Mount Everest Marathon Fundraising Page
“Because it is there…”
~ George Mallory, New York Times, 1923.

Famous explorer George Mallory used these four iconic words when he was asked why he wanted to summit Mount Everest. The saying has been echoed throughout history in an effort to explain any unjustifiable ambition.

At St. John Catholic High School we have made the eradication cancer our ambition. The reason? Because it is there…
In May 2019, David Peters (teacher and staff coordinator of Relay For Life at St. John Catholic High School in Perth, ON) will be travelling to Nepal to participate in the Tenzing Hillary Mount Everest Marathon.

"The World's Highest Marathon" is a 42 km race from the base camp of Mount Everest to the Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar.

Peters is participating in the race with the goal of:
-Raising funds for the Canadian Cancer Society through its Relay For Life
-Inspiring students at St. John Catholic High School to set a fundraising record at this year's Relay For Life
-Celebrating the accomplishments of St. John Catholic High School in its 18-year battle with cancer
